The East region of Rodrigues consists of Coromandel-Graviers and Roche Bon Dieu-Trèfles. The villages of Coromandel-Graviers include Coromandel, Montagne Cabris, Nouvelle Decouverte, Patate Théophile, Petit Gravier and Trois Soleils. The region is particularly picturesque with some of the most stunning beaches and coves, with trails that run along this stretch of coastline, allowing access to the secluded inlets.

Some of the best beaches include Saint François, Trou d’Argent and Anse Bouteille. There are a range of accommodation choices in the area including La Belle Rodriguaise Hotel in Graviers. The villages of Roche Bon Dieu-Trèfles include Brule, Point Coton, Riviere Banane, Roche Bon Dieu, and Vainqueur. Pointe Coton is a popular tourist area with its diving centre based at the luxury Cotton Bay Hotel.

Saint François

Saint François is considered one of the islands most beautiful beaches, located on the East Coast of the island. There are numerous nature trails that lead off in all directions to some of the most spectacular sightseeing spots. There are several accommodation options in this area, including bed and breakfasts like Ciel d'ete and guest houses like L'Evasion.

Pointe Coton

Pointe Coton is a particularly touristic town in the East of Rodrigues known for its diving and luxury hotel, the Cotton Bay Hotel. The hotel hosts the Cotton diving Centre, offering diving activities for all levels. There are many fascinating dive spots in the East, including the Aquarium, a natural pool in the lagoon at a depth of 7 metres, where photographers may get the chance to snap Red Mullets, Parrot Fish, Clown Fish and more. The Basilica, great for more experienced divers at a depth of 25 metres, is a spectacular site reminiscent of a church with its chimneys swept with beams of light, and several species of groupers can be found here. From Pointe Coton divers can also be taken out to the other marine park on the island, at Riviere Banane, a little further north, night dives are highly recommended here.

Trou D’Argent

Trou D’Argent is a spectacular inlet on the East Coast of the island that is a short distance away from the coral reef that can be reached by walking along the coastline and preserved narrow creek-like coves. The cove elicits a true sense of tranquillity and has been ranked among the 30 best preserved beaches in the world.

Grande Montagne

Grande Montagne is in the centre of the island and has been declared nature reserve to preserve one of the last remaining forests on Rodrigues. The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) has supervised the planting of over 150,000 native plant species, and the restoration of this ecosystem that has ensured the survival of the Rodrigues fody and the Rodrigues warbler bird species. There are many hiking trails that pass through the forest and although they are not particularly well marked, it is difficult to get too lost. Be sure to pick up a field guide to help with bird and plant identification.
