The north of Rodrigues consists of the regions of Port Mathurin, Oyster Bay, Baie Malgache and Grand Baie-Montagne. Port Mathurin is the largest city, capital and a working sea-port. There are a number of attractions here, including vibrant markets, restaurants, churches and cultural attractions. The villages of Port Mathurin include: Anse aux Anglais, Baie Lascars, Camp du Roi, Caverne Provert, Creve Coeur, Jeantac, Point Monnier, Port Mathurin Harbour, and Terre Rouge.

There are great opportunities for sports fishing in these areas and there are many accommodation options concentrated here, including hotels like the Auberge Anse aux Anglais and Les Cocotiers, guest houses like Le Récif, villas, bed and breakfasts and tourist residences like Ti Pavillon in Terre Rouge.

Grand Baie-Montagne home to the villages of Baladirou and Grand Baie is close to the capital and some great beaches. Baie Malgache consists of the quiet Baie Malgache Village and Anse Goeland, both tranquil coastal residential areas. The Oyster Bay region, with its villages that include Accacia, Allee Tamarin, Point L'Herbe, and Pointe La Gueule, is close to Port Mathurin and features some stunning beaches, as well as trekking paths to explore.

Oyster Bay

Oyster Bay or Baie aux Huitres is close to the capital Port Mathurin. Oyster Bay is home to a stunning beach and there are also trekking paths accessible from here as well as the nearby Jardin Mamzelle. There are various tourist accommodation options available including guest houses, gites and villas.

Jean Tac

Jean Tac is a small village close to Port Mathurin. Sports fishing is a popular sport in the country as a whole and Jean Tac is home to the Rod Fishing Club offering big game fishing in the rich waters of the island. The Rodriguan waters are away from industrial fishing zones and the outer reef edges six miles from the coast provide ample opportunities for an excellent catch. Rodrigues is even.
